Tour of Flanders: mass crash, barbed wire and stowaway

After about 200 kilometers, a professional cyclist fell on the wet road, triggering a mass crash in which around 20 athletes fell victim. Some fell onto the road, others fell into the ditch next to it.

Australian Mitchell Docker's fall was also painful: in a traffic jam on a narrow road, he fell 50 kilometers from the finish, rolled over the ditch and got stuck in the barbed wire. It hurts just to look at it.

Another shocking moment occurred after around 200 kilometers: while the bike entourage was traveling through the city of Aalst, a silver Opel suddenly squeezed onto the closed road. A “stowaway” who was visibly confused and was waved to the side by a marshal after 100 meters. How and why the car ended up on the track is unknown.

Despite the many shocking moments, the Tour of Flanders was once again a spectacle this year, which the Dutchman Niki Terpstra from the Quick-Step team won. Last year's third-place finisher triumphed with an outstanding solo ride over the last 17 kilometers in the classic from Antwerp to Oudenaarde.
