They fought a thrilling fight right up to the finish line, in which the South Tyrolean once again had the upper hand in the end. With a time of 27.13,02:XNUMX minutes, Gschnitzer prevailed with a lead of almost two seconds over the South American. “I knew the route because I drove it in the opposite direction once, but never like we were driving today. It was brutally exhausting and actually longer than I thought. I really liked the landscape because you have a fantastic view of the Vinschgau. I think that the duel with Antonio Donado will continue until the last stage. Tomorrow (on Tuesday, editor's note) I will of course attack again on the queen stage up to the Würzjoch," said Gschnitzer at the finish.

In the overall standings, Gschnitzer is almost eight seconds ahead of Donado, while Tiziani is a good four minutes behind the leading duo. Janine Meyer with a top performance The women's duel between Janine Meyer (Cologne) and Julia Jederelhauser (Marktoberdorf), winner and runner-up on the first section, was also repeated on Monday. Only that the decision between the two German cyclists was much clearer in 24 hours. Meyer completed the 9,8 kilometer long route with a 622 meter difference in altitude in a strong 31.04,51:XNUMX minutes and, with the ninth fastest time overall, was one and a half minutes ahead of her competitor from the Allgäu. This is also the credit that Meyer has on Jederelhauser in the overall standings.

“I'm very happy, even though the heat was our biggest enemy today. It was very steep and we were challenged until the end. But I feel good and of course I want to defend first place until the end,” explained Janine Meyer, the overall Giro winner in 2016. Defending champion Jederelhauser paid respect to her competitor: “You have to recognize when someone is stronger, and Janine is today simply drove incredibly. But I'm also very happy with my performance.” Third place once again went to Francesca Sassani from Bolzano, who crossed the finish line in 37.12,54:XNUMX minutes and is also third in the overall ranking.

The 45th Giro delle Dolomiti continues on Tuesday with this year's queen stage. A total of 174 kilometers with an altitude difference of 2199 meters goes from Bolzano via the Isarco Valley to Brixen, from there over the Würzjoch into the Gadertal, then into the Pustertal and again via the Isarco Valley back to Bozen.
