Giro delle Dolomiti ended with team time trial

The more than 600 participants gathered on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. in front of the Bolzano exhibition center, from where they headed via Kaltern towards the Unterland. In the village of Kurtinig on the Wine Route, the final show of strength in this year's Giro was on the agenda for the 60 teams with the team time trial. This took the riders across the orchards of the lowlands and ended back in Kurtinig after exactly 15,7 kilometers.

Rizzi's team is ahead The “Q36.5” team secured victory in the final time trial. The team led by the overall Giro winner Eduard Rizzi needed 19.42 minutes for the circuit and thus clearly left the DGD Racing Team behind. The second-placed quartet finished 38 seconds behind the winners. The podium finally completed the formation “A tutta!!”, which crossed the finish line 43 seconds late.

In the mixed race, however, the team “Q36.5 – SRM” was ahead. With a time of 20.19 minutes, the winning team came out ahead of “Team Alé 1” (21.33) and “Veloterra” (21.36). Only one team started in the women's field - so the riders from the “Giro Girls” team were able to celebrate victory virtually without a fight. They crossed the finish line with a time of 23.24 minutes.

This year there was also the opportunity to take part in an individual time trial as part of the final stage. This time trial, which had no influence on the overall ranking, ended with a triumph for Tor Myrmel in the men's race (19.53 minutes) and Aina Rebekka Korperud-Stokvold in the women's race (20.21 minutes). A multiple world champion at the start Among the many participants in this year's Giro delle Dolomiti, a very special athlete, Alexey Obydennov, stood out this year. The Russian is a multiple world champion in Paralympic cycling and tackled all stages of this year's tour. Obydennov covered over 10.000 meters in altitude with flying colors - he also didn't miss the final team time trial and was back in the game. Highly satisfied organizers OK boss Simon Kofler was very satisfied after the final act of the 43rd Giro delle Dolomiti. “We have had a fantastic cycling week. Except for the section in Cortina d'Ampezzo, where we unfortunately encountered a storm front, the weather always cooperated. What makes me even happier, however, is the fact that there were no serious falls or injuries at all. I think that all participants will leave the tour with a smile on their face and take home positive memories of South Tyrol,” said Kofler during the final prize distribution on Saturday at the Bolzano Trade Fair.

Although the tour has just ended, the OC boss is already thinking about the 44th edition of the Giro next year. “We have long since started work for 2020. The next edition will feature some innovations that will further increase the popularity of the tour. We are trying to involve the city of Bolzano even more closely in the Giro in order to further expand the success of this international event,” Kofler concluded.

Giro delle Dolomiti ended with team time trial

The Giro delle Dolomiti 2019 has been history since Saturday afternoon. The 43rd edition of the week-long stage race was concluded in wonderful external conditions with a team time trial in the middle of the apple orchards of the South Tyrolean lowlands.
