Jan Ullrich: “I’m sick”

“I am now aware that I am ill for reasons that I do not want to go into today,” said Ullrich in a statement that was published in several media outlets. The 1997 Tour de France winner recently spent a week in Miami/Florida as part of his therapy.

“With detoxification I have built the foundation for my new life. If you like, I have completed the first stages of my personal Tour de France,” wrote Ullrich: “Now six weeks of treatment will follow in Europe before I return to the USA for the further treatment phase.”

Lots of negative headlines Ullrich has made several negative headlines in recent months. At the beginning of August he was arrested on the holiday island of Mallorca after an incident on actor Til Schweiger's property.

Just a few days later, Ullrich is said to have choked a prostitute in Frankfurt; the police arrested him on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. The public prosecutor's investigation is ongoing. (SportNews reported)

Before his departure to the USA at the end of September, Ullrich is said to have “suddenly physically attacked” a man in the security area of Hamburg Airport. Ullrich told RTL that the separation from his wife Sara was the trigger for his problems.
