Danger of avalanches: Gavia Pass cannot be crossed during the Giro

Due to the danger of avalanches, the highest climb in the program of the 102nd Giro d'Italia has to be canceled. The 2618 meter high Gavia Pass cannot be crossed on Tuesday on the queen stage of the Tour of Italy because high snow walls are piling up along the route and there is a risk of icy conditions on the descent.
