Maratona dles Dolomites: Cini and Maltha are the big winners

All participants, including the thousands of volunteers, had the green pass because they were either vaccinated, cured or tested negative as of Thursday. This year's cycling marathon was all about art. In fact, the Maratona dles Dolomites can be compared to a work of art, starting with the majestic Dolomites that appeared in all their splendor that morning.

This year the race on the long distance was again decided on the Giau Pass: There Fabio Cini attacked the small leading group, which included, among others, the three-time Maratona winner Tommaso Elettrico and Vincenzo Pisani. A daring move, because the Falzarego and Valparola passes still had to be overcome before the finish line. But Cini didn't hesitate for a moment and completed his work single-handedly in the astonishing time of 4:31.20 hours (almost five minutes faster than Elettrico's time in his last victory). Pisani and Paolo Castelnovo followed in second and third place, crossing the finish line more than five minutes behind.

In the women's category, Martha Maltha made it after her second place last year: The Dutchwoman crossed the finish line in 5:17.17 hours, five minutes earlier than the winner of the last edition. Martina Trevisiol and Sonia Passuti completed the podium.

On the middle distance (106 kilometers and 3.130 meters altitude) Pietro Dutto won ahead of Francesco Avanzo and Luigi Salimbeni. Lisa De Cesare was victorious among the women. Olga Cappiello and Chiara Turchi took 2nd and 3rd place. The podium positions on the Sella Ronda (55 kilometers and 1.780 meters in altitude) were taken by Davide Ferrari, Beniamino Desiderio and Pietro Andreoletti for the men and Veronica Alessandrini, Elisa Della Rosa and Vera Nicolussi Leck for the men the ladies.

On Sunday, after a two-year break, the 34th edition of the Maratona dles Dolomites took place. Fabio Cini and Martha Maltha are the winners of the long route (138 km and 4.230 meters in altitude).
