Maratona dles Dolomites: cycling spectacle with 9000 starters

9000 cyclists from 68 nations will take part in this year's 32nd edition of the Maratona dles Dolomites-Enel 2018, the most important international cycling marathon for hobby cyclists. This time there were a total of 32.400 inquiries for the race. The majority of starters were determined through a lottery system.

The starting shot will be fired on Sunday at 6.30 a.m. sharp in La Ila/Stern. The finish area is in Corvara. This time too there will be a rich program. Cyclists can choose one of the 3 routes during the race. Traditionally, you can choose from the marathon distance of 138 kilometers and 4230 meters in altitude, a medium one with 106km and 3130 meters in altitude, and the short “Sellaronda” with 55km and 1780 meters in altitude. The participants will go over the Dolomite passes of Campolongo, Sella, Pordoi, Grödner Joch, Giau and Falzarego/Valparola, which will, as always, be closed to traffic.

Half of the cyclists are Italian, the other half come from all five continents. Most European representatives come from Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Denmark, while cyclists from Singapore, Saudi Arabia, China, Kenya, New Zealand, Australia and Brazil come from the most distant countries. Well-known personalities from sport, politics and society have always competed at the Maratona. This time, among others, the following former and active sports stars have registered for the race: Elia Viviani, winner of 4 stages of the Giro d'Italia, Miguel Indurain, Alessandro Zanardi, Davide Cassani, Paolo Bettini and cross-country skiing ace Federico Pellegrino, but also the South Tyrolean winter sports athletes Manfred and Manuela Mölgg, Dorothea Wierer, Lisa Vittozzi, Dominik Windisch and Christof Innerhofer.

Last year, the Italians Tommaso Elettrico (4:37.21 hours) and Erica Magnaldi (5:16.22) won the marathon course.

Live on TV RAITRE will follow the cycling race with a live TV broadcast starting at 6.15:12.00 a.m. and lasting without interruptions until 50:XNUMX p.m. Three helicopters and an airplane are responsible for recording from above, while more than XNUMX men and women work on technology and direction to guarantee an efficient and high-quality broadcast. The TV studio set up at the finish area in Corvara, which welcomes cycling personalities and other well-known figures, will serve as the focal point from which to broadcast the cycling marathon program and to record the incredible landscape in which the race takes place. Sky Sport and many other international television stations will also report on the race. Motto: Balance Every year the event has a different motto. In recent years these have included “love”, “journey” and “forgiveness”. This time it's all about “balance”, Ladin “ecuiliber”. The organizers around OK boss Michil Costa decided on this because “our beloved mountain passes, our beloved Dolomites, which belong to all of us who live here and enjoy the beauty of these mountains, need more balance.” Because a balance between people and nature is increasingly essential and necessary for the survival of the planet, emphasizes Costa.
