Operation Aderlass: 2 Austrians banned for a long time

The Austrian Anti-Doping Legal Commission (ÖADR) imposed a four-year ban on both athletes. Preidler and Denifl have been provisionally suspended since March 4th, so their bans run until March 5th, 4.

As part of the investigation into the so-called Operation Aderlass, Preidler filed a voluntary disclosure with the public prosecutor's office in Graz. The Innsbruck public prosecutor's office had investigated Denifl, and he then confessed during an interrogation. Both are accused of autologous blood doping. The world cycling association UCI also confirmed the sanctions.

Results canceled, prize money must be paid back Preidler and Denifl were given four weeks to challenge the decisions before the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). In the case of Preidler, the violation of the anti-doping rules relates to the year 2018, in the case of Denifl it is “at least” a period from June 1, 2014 to the end of 2018.

Preidler's results between February 1, 2018 and March 5, 2019 were annulled, and Denifl's between June 1, 2014 and the start of the provisional ban. All entry and prize money must be paid back and the procedural costs must be borne by Preidler or Denifl. Denifl, for example, won the Tour of Austria (2017) and won a stage in the Tour of Spain (2017) during the period in question.
