Thrilling four-way battle goes to Gschnitzer

On the first three sections of the Giro delle Dolomiti 2022, Thomas Gschnitzer from Vipiteno and the Colombian Antonio Donado fought a thrilling duel. That's why nothing has changed in the overall standings. I really enjoyed the stage. “Fortunately, the climb wasn’t quite as steep as on the Würzjoch,” said Thomas Gschnitzer at the finish. “Today was a very fast mountain time trial. The climbs weren't as steep as before. For a long time there were five of us, then suddenly there were four of us. Attacks were made again and again, but we stayed together until the end and in the end Thomas had the necessary centimeters on his side. Now we enjoy being here at Lake Durnholz and the fantastic Sarner Speck. “It’s another stage that I’ll remember for a long time,” enthused Donado. Michele Lisi is also an enthusiastic participant in the Giro delle Dolomiti. Originally from Puglia, he made a name for himself as head chef at the Nerano restaurant in Beverly Hills. There, the 38-year-old, who has lived in the USA for over 15 years, not only cooks for illustrious personalities from Los Angeles, but also counts numerous cycling greats among his guests when they are in the United States. “The mountains and cycling are my great passion. A friend told me about the Giro delle Dolomiti and so I took part for the first time last year. I liked it so much straight away that I'm taking part again this year. July is a good month for me to return to my native Italy. “I then combine a longer stay in Puglia by the sea with the Giro delle Dolomiti,” said Lisi. Meyer cannot be beaten on the fourth section either Janine Meyer confirmed her position as the favorite among the women. The 44-year-old from Cologne reached Lake Durnholz after an impressive 25.43,86:12 minutes. This meant that the overall leader had the 26.35,68th fastest time overall. Meyer relegated last year's winner Julia Jederelhauser (Martkoberdorf/Allgäu) to second place (16), who also showed a strong performance and achieved the XNUMXth fastest time overall. Ursula Armbruster (Alpirsbach) completed the podium in third place. “I rode in a group and tried to stick with it. That actually went very well. At the very end I couldn't keep up, but I saw the church tower at the top and fought my way to the finish. “Compliments also to Julia (Jadelhauser, editor’s note), who was in the group behind and also rode very well,” said Janine Meyer, summing up her fourth stage success in the 45th Giro delle Dolomiti. The overall victory can no longer be taken away from the strong German cyclist. In the ranking, Meyer is almost ten minutes ahead of Jederelhauser and around 26 minutes ahead of Armbruster. The 45th Giro delle Dolomiti continues on Friday in Trentino with an extremely demanding section.
