Pinot wins Tour of the Alps

Pinot had everything under control on this 5th and final stage over the entire route of around 164 kilometers and took overall victory in 18:28.48 hours ahead of the Italian Domenico Pozzovivo and Miguel Anton Lopez from Colombia. In the end, Pinot had the upper hand by 15 seconds. This means that the Frenchman is also one of the favorites for the Giro d'Italia, which begins in Jerusalem on May 4th.

Superstar Chris Froome from the Sky team crossed the finish line in 16th place, 4 seconds behind the victorious Frenchman. Italy's great cycling hope Fabio Aru ended up in 6th place. "I'm very happy that I was able to put my name on the list of winners of this race, this success is particularly valuable for climbers," said the 27-year-old Pinot.

Stage win for Padun Mark Padun secured the stage victory. In 4:16.20 hours, the Ukrainian relegated the New Zealander George Bennett to second place by 5 seconds. A few kilometers before the finish, Padun pulled away and couldn't miss the victory.

The 164 km section initially brought a nine-man escape group, but as expected they were caught on the World Cup circuit with the Olympic climb that had been ridden three times. By the penultimate mountain classification, the field had already shrunk to around 20 riders. On the descent, third overall, Lopez attacked together with Giovanni Visconti. Meanwhile, Pinot and Pozzovivo caught up with Lopez again a little later, but Froome was unable to do so on the climb and the descent to Innsbruck.

On the last flat kilometers in the World Cup city, all the overall favorites and a few helpers came together. The top stars were then satisfied with what they had achieved and finally let the 21-year-old Padun get away around four kilometers from the finish.
