Rizzi makes his overall victory clear on the Seiser Alm

On the last individual stage, Eduard Rizzi really accelerated again. The soon-to-be 48-year-old Sarner from the sports team had been using a lot of brains over the past few days, but he gave it his all once again in the final mountain time trial. Rizzi won in 29.36 minutes, relegating Manuel Giacomelli from Predazzo to second place by four seconds.

The podium in the fifth stage was completed by Colombian Sebastian Mejia, who had a great duel with Rizzi for the overall victory over the past week. Ultimately, the South Tyrolean local hero took advantage of the home advantage and triumphed for the first time in the traditional cycling event with a total time of 2:06.11 hours.

“This win means a lot to me. I mean, I've competed at least 15 times, maybe even 20 times. I've been fourth, third and second in the overall ranking so many times and have always narrowly missed out on victory. Now it's finally enough. I am sorry that my father Willi, who died last year, can no longer live to see this day. But I am sure that he is looking down from above and is now very proud,” said a visibly moved Eduard Rizzi after reaching the finish line in Compatsch. Second place in the overall standings went to Mejia, while Giacomelli moved up to third.

Ciacci cannot be beaten again In the women's mountain time trial, there was no match for Lorna Ciacci (athlete team), who took the second stage win in a row. The woman from Bolzano prevailed with a time of 36.02 minutes and relegated Evelyn Fissneider from Leifers to second place (+2.34). Tanja Cais from Salzburg took third place.

Monika Dietl from Freising in Bavaria took overall victory. Last year's winner, who had a cold for a few days but was still gritting her teeth, rode very tactically and left no stone unturned in the battle for the Giro ranking. The 40-year-old German has a total time of 2:38.59 hours. Second place in the ranking went to Annette Pronk from the Netherlands, while Cais was happy about third place. Klausner Ruth Zemmer came in fourth place as the best local cyclist.

“The first three days were tough. Then I realized I had a bit of a cold. On the rest day we took it easy so that our legs didn't close up. Yesterday's thunderstorm wasn't ideal for my health either, but a compliment to the organizer for how everything was handled so confidently. Today I was just looking to take home the overall victory. The routes were all interesting and the area here is simply indescribably beautiful,” summarized Monika Dietl at the finish on the South Tyrolean Hochalm. Peter Fill at the start South Tyrol's ski ace Peter Fill also mingled with the participants on Friday. The three-time winner of a small crystal ball from Castelrotto is an enthusiastic amateur cyclist - just like Rainer Senoner, President of the Saslong Classic Club, who cycled part of this year's Giro delle Dolomiti for the second time.

The 43rd Dolomites cycling tour will conclude on Saturday with a team time trial in the South Tyrolean lowlands, which has no influence on the individual ranking. The teams consist of a minimum of four and a maximum of five participants and some are formed during the Giro week. Ambitious hobby cyclists can also start individually in the team chrono, which starts at 10 a.m. The field departs at 9 a.m. from the Bolzano trade fair.
