Tour of the Alps 2019 will be decided in Bolzano

The first step of the Tour of the Alps 2019 was taken on Wednesday in the “Sala Buzzati” in Milan, the headquarters of the RCS Media Group and the “Gazzetta dello Sport”: As part of an extensive presentation, the stage race was held in the three Euregio -Regions presented.

The Tour of the Alps is taking place in this form and under this name for the third time. The race emerged from the “Giro del Trentino” two years ago, making it the 3rd edition of this historic event.

In recent years, the organizers of the GS Alto Garda have not only scored points in terms of participants and audience, but have also silenced the vast majority of critics with the perfect organization of the tour. Now the most difficult task of all awaits the OK team: repeating the success of the last two editions and aiming for even bigger goals together.

20 professional teams took part 2019 professional teams will also be competing in 20. The second edition, which ended around seven months ago with the overall victory of the Frenchman Thibaut Pinot, has finally made the TotA one of the major highlights of the international cycling season. This time too, the top stars of the cycling scene are expected. They also come to South Tyrol several times - the destination in the second stage is already in Schenna.

On paper, this stage is the longest and at the same time the most demanding of the entire tour. The participants start in the North Tyrolean community of Reith im Alpbachtal and after 179 km and over 3000 meters of altitude reach the South Tyrolean community of Schenna. The most spectacular and difficult climb is probably the one to the Jaufenpass (2094 m; 15,1 km climb with an average gradient of 7,5%), but the last 5 km of the route, which are constantly uphill, are also tough. The next day, the third stage takes us to the third region of the three Euregio areas: The section starts in Salurn and ends after 106 km in the Trentino community of Baselga di Pinè. Final in Bolzano The final stage of the Tour of the Alps 2019 on Friday, April 26th takes place exclusively in South Tyrol and takes the riders from Kaltern to Bolzano over 148 km. If you want to win the tour, you have to give everything until the last kilometer: first there is the climb to Klobenstein before the very last ramp to Jenesien awaits. There - around 25 km before the end - the last points of the GPM rating of the Tour of the Alps will be awarded. The last kilometers are an invitation to enjoy: after a descent and a very last flat section, the stage race ends at Bozen's Victory Square.

The 20 teams taking part in the Tour of the Alps 2019 will be officially announced in January. Numerous World Tour teams are also expected to be at the start of the next edition. An Italian team will certainly be there, coached by Italy's national coach Davide Cassani. The tour is seen above all as important preparation for the “Giro d'Italia”. The stages at a glance The Tour of the Alps 2019 program includes five stages with a total of 711 kilometers to cover. 10 mountain classifications and no less than 13.630 meters of altitude await the participants.
