Tour of the Alps begins in Brixen

The Tour of the Alps, a kind of “Euregio tour”, is now taking place for the fourth time. The stage race, which has always been organized by the GS Alto Garda, has its origins in the Tour of Trentino and is actually taking place for the 44th time.

Cyclists have over 20 kilometers and almost 24 meters of altitude on the program from April 2020th to April 717,7th, 13.000. The Tour of the Alps starts in South Tyrol for the first time. From Brixen we head to Innsbruck. For the third stage on April 22nd, the destination is in South Tyrol. The cyclists travel from Imst in North Tyrol to Naturns. A total of around 20 professional teams are taking part in the race again this time. Numerous stars are expected. Teams can register their drivers for the race in January.

The Tour of the Alps is considered the most important preparation for the Giro d'Italia, which begins in May, and is also part of the “UCI Pro Series”. In 2019, victory went to the Russian Pawel Siwakow, in 2018 the Frenchman Thibaut Pinot triumphed, while in the premiere edition in 2017 the Briton Thomas Geraint took victory.

Pirrone as South Tyrol godmother The Euregio regions, South Tyrol, Trentino and the federal state of Tyrol, have all sent a “godmother” for the Tour of the Alps. Professional cyclist Elena Pirrone holds this position for South Tyrol. Laura Stigger from Ötztal acts as godmother for the state of Tyrol. The 19-year-old not only won gold at the Junior World Cross-Country Championships, but was also crowned Junior World Champion at the 2018 World Championship road race in Innsbruck.
