Tour stage canceled – Bernal new front runner

The organizers announced this on Friday afternoon and stopped the race about 30 kilometers from the finish. Instead, the times that the drivers achieved on the summit of the Iseran were taken into account. Accordingly, the Colombian Egan Bernal is now in the yellow jersey after an attack, which the French local hero Julian Alaphilippe lost after a collapse on the penultimate climb.

The race was stopped suddenly. On the rapid descent, Alaphilippe, Bernal and the other favorites suddenly stopped their high pace when they were informed by radio that the section was ending early. Continuing between the Col de L'Iseran and Tignes proved impossible; large excavators had to clear the mountain of water, snow and hail. Mudflows also descended into the streets.

There had already been a bang beforehand. The highly publicized local hero Thibaut Pinot had to give up the race shortly after the start due to muscular problems. After around 40 kilometers he got off the bike and into the team car.

The storm in the French Alps on Friday also has an impact on Saturday's stage of the Tour de France. The original 130 km section from Albertville to the mountain finish in Val Thorens was shortened by the organizers to 59 kilometers due to a landslide. The new route skips the climb to Cormet de Roselend and leads directly to the long final climb.
