Dream comeback crowned

Quick-Step strikes again! After winning the opening time trial in Copenhagen, the Belgian team also won the second stage from Rokside to Nyborg. The 25-year-old Dutchman Fabio Jakobsen took victory on Saturday after 202,2 kilometers in a hectic sprint ahead of the Belgian Wout van Aert and the Dane Mads Pedersen. Narrowly escaped death – now at the top. For Jakobsen it was the highlight of his impressive comeback: two years ago he flew over the barriers in a high-speed crash at around 80 kilometers per hour during the final sprint of the Tour of Poland and was in an artificial coma for several days. At first it was unclear whether the Dutchman would survive. In the fall he lost all but two of his teeth and his face was disfigured. After several transplants and surgeries, he worked on his return to professional cycling. At last year's Vuelta a Espagna he celebrated an incredible comeback with three stage wins. Now what many consider to be the best sprinter in the world also took part in his first Tour de France.

Thanks to the time credit, Van Aert took over the yellow jersey from opening winner Yves Lampaert, who had already experienced a moment of shock on the bridge over the Great Belt. After a fall, the Belgian was temporarily left behind, but with the help of his teammates he made it back into the field.

The feared cross winds on Denmark's longest bridge (18 kilometers) did not materialize. Nevertheless, an extremely hectic finale developed, with a few mass falls. The first mountain jersey of this year's Tour de France was secured by fan favorite Magnus Cort Nielsen, who secured all classifications from the breakaway group of the day.

On Sunday, the tour will continue at the end of the guest appearance in Denmark with the third stage over 183 kilometers from Vejle to Sönderborg. This is followed by the first day of rest before things continue in France on Tuesday.
