Alaphilippe secured his second stage success at the finish of stage 16 in Bagnéres-de-Luchon. Police reportedly used tear gas or pepper spray against the demonstrators. The professional cyclists have to line up in a formation, similar to Formula 1 or motorcycle racing. The overall leader can stand at the front, with the pursuers starting behind them.
