Vuelta: Strong Buchmann stays third - Gallopin wins ahead of Sagan

Pozo Alcon (SID) Tour ace Emanuel Buchmann showed no weaknesses on the seventh stage of the Tour of Spain and is heading into the second Vuelta week in third place overall. Buchmann crossed the finish line in 2th place with the first large group on Friday when Frenchman Tony Gallopin (AG185,7R) won after a demanding 17 km between Puerto Lumbreras and Pozo Alcon. Gallopin, who had broken away a few kilometers before the finish, was five seconds ahead of Buchmann's teammate and world champion Peter Sagan (Slovakia) and the Spanish rider at the same time on the difficult stage, which partly led up the wild hills of Andalusia over better dirt roads Veteran Alejandro Valverde through. Buchmann was also rated five seconds behind. The Frenchman Rudy Molard (FDJ) continues to lead the overall standings. The new second is Valverde (+0:48 minutes), who narrowly overtook Buchmann (+0:49) for third place on the day thanks to his six bonus seconds. The previous overall runner-up, Michal Kwiatkowski, lost 25 seconds to Buchmann and slipped to sixth place (+1:06) behind the Germans. Stage eight over 195,1 km between Linares and Almadén again has a fairly undulating profile, but does not offer any really big mountains. They are on the program again on Sunday, when the classification riders around Buchmann expect a very difficult mountain finish after 200,8 km on the almost 2000 m high Alto de La Covatilla.
