Second victory: Denz triumphs in the finish sprint

Nico Denz of Germany took his second stage win at the 106th Giro d'Italia with an energetic performance.

The 29-year-old won the sprint of a breakaway group on Saturday on the 14th stage after 194 kilometers from Sierre to Cassano Magnago, narrowly ahead of the Canadian Derek Gee. Denz had only won the twelfth stage in Rivoli on Thursday - also as an outlier. Overall, it was the third German victory on this year's Tour of Italy.

In the last two kilometers, Denz drove almost alone, 14 seconds behind the three leaders, before he had the greatest stamina in the sprint. "That's crazy. I don't understand what's happening at the moment. That has to be a dream,” said Denz after his new coup: “I went all or nothing. I didn’t want to come fourth.”

The contenders for the overall victory around former Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas, on the other hand, took it easy and gave the breakaway group a big lead.

The Giro continues on Sunday with the 15th stage from Seregno to Bergamo over 195 kilometers. Three mountain classifications in the second category and one climb in the first category await the drivers.
