Tour of the Alps: Second stage to Rohan Dennis

With temperatures barely above zero, the cycling professionals had to cover a total of 140,4 km today. The route led from Sterzing via Franzensfeste and Bruneck through the Pustertal to Winnebach. After crossing the border into Austria, the stage finally ended in the East Tyrolean Villgratental with a mountain finish in the village center of Innervillgraten.

It remained exciting until the last few meters and that was also because the TV recordings were canceled in the final part of the stage. It was only in the last few kilometers that Damiano Caruso, Mikel Landa and Stefano Pirazzi were caught by the peloton. The Australian Rohan Dennis finally sprinted across the finish line first. Thibaut Pinot and Davide Ballerini completed the podium. Michele Scarponi, winner of the first stage, hands over the leader's jersey to the Frenchman Thibaut Pinot.

Tomorrow the queen stage in South Tyrol The starting shot will be given in Niederdorf tomorrow, Wednesday. At St. Lorenzen (around 11.15 a.m.) we head into Val Badia, where the 15-kilometer climb to the Würzjoch begins. The first riders are expected there at 12 p.m. The subsequent descent then leads to St. Andrä. After the sprint classification in Lüsen, the route goes steeply up to the Rodeneckeralm. The climb measures 12 kilometers and has a whopping 20 percent gradient in some sections. You will meet the riders at the mountain pasture at 13.15:14.15 p.m. This is followed by a longer descent via Brixen and Klausen, where the nine-kilometer final climb to Villnöß begins. The finish is scheduled for XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. and by then you can begin to see the favorites for overall victory.
