Tour-Transalp begins with South Tyrolean victory

The winner in the women's race was Marina Ilmer from Vinschgau, who only decided to take part at short notice because she was filling in for a participant who had dropped out. The Tarscher woman, who already won the Transalp in 2013, rides in a team with the German Janine Meyer. The two completed the first section in 5:01.14 hours, leaving Trentino's Marcellino Dossi, 2014 winner, and her partner Letizia Grottoli behind by 11.21 minutes. Silke Keinath and Monika Dietl from Germany came in third (+17.25 mins). “I've only had a few races under my belt this year,” says Marina Ilmer, “but it was enough for my first stage win. Shortly before the Brenner Pass we fell while driving in a group. “Fortunately nothing worse happened,” said the women’s winner. In the mixed category, Alexandra Hober and Michael Tumler from Meran took second place, 26 seconds behind the strong Austrian duo consisting of Daniela Pintarelli and Andreas Traxl. “The two Austrians are very strong,” says Alexandra Hober, who won the Alpine crossing in 2007 together with Petra Dibiasi. “It will be difficult to defeat the leading duo in the next stages.” In the master class, Hannes Pallhuber from Antholz and Massimo Debertolis from Trentino took second place behind Hans Peter Obwaller and Mathias Nothegger (A) (+2.01 min.). The second stage on Monday leads over 110,84 km and 3.059 meters in altitude to St. Vigil in Enneberg. The TOUR Transalp ends on the 2nd. July in Riva del Garda. Brixen and St. Vigil are two stage locations in South Tyrol. There are five categories: men, women, mixed, masters (men, together over 80 years old) and grandmasters (men, together over 100 years old). The ranking is based on stage and overall victory.

Tour-Transalp begins with South Tyrolean victory

The 14th Tour Transalp started in Imst on Sunday. The destination of the first stage of crossing the Alps by racing bike was Brixen. More than 1.000 cyclists from 25 nations had to overcome 157,49 km and 2.693 meters of altitude. There was a South Tyrolean victory and two further podium places.
