Tour-Transalp: South Tyroleans celebrate three day victories

“It would be nice to win in my hometown too,” Massimo Debertolis announced hopefully on Tuesday. His wish came true today. Together with Hannes Pallhuber, his partner from Antholz, he won for the second time in a row and left the leaders in the overall ranking, Hans Peter Obwaller and Mathias Nothegger from Austria, behind by almost nine minutes with the best time of the day. The South Tyrolean-Trentino team also benefited from Obwaller's tire defect and is now only a minute behind the Austrians in the overall ranking before the fifth stage. “We are very satisfied,” says Hannes Pallhuber happily. "I have to thank Hannes," says Massimo Debertolis, "he gave 150% today. We have to recover a little bit tomorrow because we pedaled like crazy for two days to make up time," she said Masters winner.

Ilmer-Mayer leads the overall standings In the women's category, Marina Ilmer and Janina Meyer triumphed for the fourth time in a row. The Tschars woman and the Cologne woman distanced Marcellina Dossi and Letizia Grottoli by a further 9.09 minutes and extended their lead in the overall ranking to 52 minutes over the Trentino women. In the mixed category, Alexandra Hober and Michael Tumler achieved their first victory after three second places. The lead over the category leaders, Daniela Pintarelli and Andreas Traxl, was only six tenths of a second. "We rode tactically cleverly, kept up the high pace and didn't let ourselves be left behind by the leaders," says Alexandra Hober, describing today's stage. “However, it will be difficult to make up the 12-minute gap in the remaining parts of the day.”

Tomorrow after Cresspanodel Grappa The fifth stage will take the amateur cyclists tomorrow from Fiera di Primiero over 130,24 km and 2.617 meters in altitude to Crespano del Grappa in the province of Treviso. The Tour-Transalp ends on July 2nd in Riva del Garda.
