Zamboni and Hober win the MendelRace

In summery conditions, cycling amateurs from home and abroad struggled from Eppan (415m) to the Mendel Pass (1.363m) on Saturday. On the 14,8 kilometer long route, 960 meters of altitude had to be overcome. It was also the start of the South Tyrol.Berg.Cup racing series, which is being held for the fourth time this year and consists of a total of 5 stages.

Right from the start, a group with the best drivers formed at the front of the field, which immediately caused a large selection in the field. Little by little the leading group was reduced to a few riders and last year's winner Andrea Zamboni (Carina Brao Caffé) was finally able to narrowly prevail in the final part against Philipp Schäddel (Team Alpecin) and Maurizio Anzelini (Bici e Sport). The best South Tyrolean was Thomas Gschnitzer (Racing Team Winax-Food), who took fourth place, a total of 44 seconds behind.

Last year's winner Alexandra Hober (47.23) from the Athletic Club Merano team also won the women's race again. The German Julia Luck (Team Alpecin) and Lorna Ciacci (Sportler Team) completed the podium.

The second stage of the South Tyrol.Berg.Cup takes place on May 13th, with the Edelrot Trophy Lana-Gampenpass.

The second MendelRace took place on Saturday. Almost 200 cyclists took part in the promotion race.
