2018 is already the year of resignations

After the 2018 Olympic season, several South Tyrolean winter athletes ended their careers, such as the two skiers Manuele Mölgg and Florian Eisath. But some summer athletes have also announced their retirement in the last few days and weeks. Here is the SportNews overview of the most prominent resignations so far:

Snowboarding: Christoph Mick (78 World Cup races, 2 wins)

Ice Hockey: Alexander Egger (3 championship titles and 2 EBEL titles, cup winner and Supercoppa winner with HCB, captain of the Italian national team)

Handball: Lukas Waldner (4x champion, 3x cup winner, 3x Supercup with SSV Bozen) Holger Kovacs (captain SSV Brixen)

Athletics: Silvia Weissteiner (6x Italian champion, bronze in the 2007 European Indoor Championships over 5000 meters, 7th World Championships in 2009 in the 5000 meter run)

To swim: Lisa Fissneider (2x gold, 1x silver Junior World Championships 2011, 1x gold, 1x silver Junior European Championships 2010, 1x bronze Short Course European Championships 2010)

Tennis: Karin Knapp (2 WTA, 6 ITF titles, 6 ITF doubles titles)

Biathlon: Karin Oberhofer (149 World Cup races, 1x bronze Sochi 2014*, 3x World Cup bronze) *Oberhofer will also be awarded the bronze medal in the sprint, after the subsequent doping ban of silver medalist Olga Viluchina (RUS)
