Oldest wrestling king of all time: Stucki wins in front of 50.000 fans

The Federal Wrestling and Alpine Festival (ESAF) is the largest sporting event in Switzerland and takes place every three years. The largest sports stadium in Switzerland was built in Zug for the festival, which lasts two days. The construction work took a total of three months and the dismantling only took three weeks. A total of 56.500 spectators could be accommodated in the stadium - more than ever before at a wrestling festival.

Wicki and Orlik are the top favorites Before the ESAF, two names in particular were highly traded, namely Joel Wicki from central Switzerland and Armon Orlik from southeastern Switzerland. The latter has never been defeated at all in all of 2019. Both started the festival on Saturday with four wins and seemed to make it to the final stages without any major problems. Orlik misses the final step On Sunday, however, both Wicki and Orlik stumbled a little. Against Christian Stucki, who is 1.98 meters tall and weighs 150 kilograms, both athletes couldn't get past a "placed" or a draw. Orlik and Wicki still had everything in their own hands, but they had to win the penultimate course. The 22-year-old Wicki succeeded, Orlik did not. The 24-year-old from Graubünden remained unbeaten until the end, but missed the final round where Wicki met Stucki. Sensation perfect Before the final, which can last a maximum of 16 minutes, the audience favorite Wicki was 1,25 points ahead of his opponent Stucki. A position would have been enough for the 1.82 m little wrestler to bring the royal title back to central Switzerland after 33 years. But the experienced Stucki had something against it and defeated Wicki in the final round after just 42 seconds. With the 10 points, the Bernese drew level with his competitor and was named the oldest king of all time thanks to his victory in the final.
