Azzurri fail in the semi-finals against the favorites

After the Triumph in the quarter-finals over Denmark The Azzurri were in the semi-finals and met an absolute brute force there. Germany is considered one of the strongest nations in fistball and won the World Cup title in 2019. The 0-4 defeat in sets seems quite clear, but what the result doesn't show is a sometimes close game with strong actions from the hosts.

The third set in particular could have gone differently. The Azzurri showed extremely exciting game changes, at least on an equal footing with the Germans, but with the score at 9:9, a crossing error by batsman Armin Runer was decisive and so the third set also went to the favorites. This temporary upswing in the Italian national team is probably due primarily to the substitution of the experienced captain Simon Prudenziati, who entered the field in the position of second batsman instead of Christian Scartezzini. In the end, even this step wasn't enough and the Azzurri had to give up their final dreams after 2:0 (4:6, 11:4, 11:9 and 11:3).

Jörg Ramel, part of the Italian coaching team, was satisfied despite the defeat: “I'm really proud of the team, they never gave up the game. Even if the 4-0 speaks for itself, we were in a position to win the round at any time, especially in the third set - but unfortunately we lacked the luck and the power."

It continues on Sunday at 12.30 p.m., where the Azzurri will face Switzerland in the game for third place.
