Badminton: SSV Bozen and ASV Mals come out on top

Fink - third in the European U17 rankings - won the junior women's singles title without losing a set. She also lived up to her role as favorite in the U17 doubles with Yasmine Hamza. As a bonus, the Bolzano woman also won silver in the mixed doubles. The SSV could almost have celebrated gold in the girls' U17 singles. Hamza was narrowly defeated in three sets by the favored Judith Mair from Mals in the final. Like Fink and Hamza, Maja Fallaha also won three bronze medals, all among the juniors (U19). Matthias Silber-nagl provided the big surprise. The U15 national champion has only been playing badminton for two years. Bronze in the individual is the well-deserved reward for rapid development.

Section leader Claudia Gruber is particularly pleased about the successes of the youngest children: “Our U13 girls won silver and bronze. This shows that we also work excellently with the very little ones.” Katharina Kössler and Lisa Kleinrubatscher only had to admit defeat in the third set in the doubles final. Kössler also reached the semifinals in the singles. The two were the most successful girls of the 2007 class in Italy. The results are impressive, but the competition from all over Italy is catching up. ASV Mals was now able to win the cup as the most successful youth club in Italy for the 10th time in a row, ahead of the club from Chiari (Lombardy). For 10 years, ASV Mals has been the measure of all things in Italy's youth badminton sector, after winning the cup as the best club in the general class for the first time this year in May. These successes are the fruits of the work of the ASV Mals, the collaboration with the Mals high school center through the badminton project and the training base of the Italian Badminton Association of South Tyrol (CTT) in Mals. Badminton and teamwork are trained together at a high level of these three institutions guarantee success. The most successful player at ASV Mals was Teresa Blaas, who won the Italian championship title in all three U13 disciplines. Judith Mair (U17) and Luca Zhou (U15) won two titles each. Simon Köllemann (U19), David Messner and Carolin Rauner (both U13) ultimately won a title.
