Bob: Friedrich made it to the final in second place behind Kripps, Lochner in third place

Pyeongchang (SID) Series world champion Francesco Friedrich (Oberbärenburg) has returned to the fight for Olympic victory in the two-man bobsleigh with a track record. The 27-year-old drove by far the best time in the third of four runs with his pusher Thorsten Margis and climbed to second place. Overall World Cup winner Justin Kripps from Canada is only six hundredths of a second ahead of Friedrich. The two other German sleds will also fight for the medals in the decision at 22.00 p.m. local time (14.00 p.m. CET). Johannes Lochner (Stuttgart/+0,09) held his third place with pusher Christopher Weber. Nico Walther (Oberbärenburg/+0,13) fell from first to fifth place with Christian Poser. The Latvian Oskars Melbardis (+0,12) is just ahead of him. At the halfway point of the competition, Walther was surprisingly in the lead, but the gap to the podium is still minimal. The 27-year-old didn't have a bad third run, but the other top drivers also hit their runs this time. Since Walther is by far the slowest starter of the contenders for victory, he couldn't keep up with the times. Friedrich was disappointed with fifth place on Sunday. The Saxon has won every world title in the small sled since 2013 and traveled to South Korea as the favorite. After the weak first two runs, national coach Rene Spies announced changes to the choice of blades, which now apparently paid off.
