Bolzano fistball players are champions

The final showdown was not for the faint of heart. The white-red fistballers traveled to Kremsmünster, 400 kilometers away, as outsiders. “The last three games went to Kremstaler,” remembers defender Valentin Schwarz. Before the last match day, TUS Kremsmünster was undefeated in 1st place in the table, closely followed by Bozen in 2nd place. “Before the game it was already clear that the winner of the match would return to the top division as champions. We wanted to round off what has been a very successful season so far with this cherry on the cake. But we knew that we had to take on the best and most consistent team of the season,” explains attacker Armin Runer before the game.

And the expected hard and competitive game is confirmed. “We had to go through the entire 7 sets (4:3) in order to leave the court as champions at the end. Twice we were only able to win in extra time. Kremsmünster demanded everything from us, especially with excellent defense and varied shots. It was a real fistball thriller,” summarizes Runer after the game. After more than 2 hours of play, at 2 degrees and a subsequent summer thunderstorm with squalls, Bolzano was the winner of the promotion round. “That was only the third time in the club’s history that we achieved promotion to the top division. We are overjoyed and now full of motivation for the highlight of the year, the World Cup in Switzerland,” explained Valentin Schwarz after the game.

After winning the championship, the Bolzano fistball players are now going on a well-deserved short summer break for the first time, before they go back to the first international event of the year in three weeks with the European Fistball Association Cup in Switzerland.

Bolzano fistball players are champions

The Bolzano fistballers achieved their target and desired goal last weekend and secured promotion back to the 1st Austrian Bundesliga as champions of the promotion playoffs.
