Bolzano fistball players have a successful start to the European Championship season

In the first double round, the players led by captain Florian Runer met TuS Kremsmünster and Union Compact Freistadt. The Kremstal team are a direct competitor to the Bozen team. “Our goal for the spring round this year is to get into the top six teams in order to be able to play for qualification for the Final 3 in the autumn round. A win against Kremsmünster is a must,” explains captain Runer before the game. And the people of Bolzano were able to achieve this important first victory. In a hard-fought and even game, the red-whites prevailed 4-2 in sets in summer temperatures. “This is how we imagined the start of a home European Championship (June 10 to 12, 2022 in Kaltern) and World Game season. Due to the delayed but more intensive preparation for the season, we were in the game from the start and, above all, were able to decide the important points for ourselves. “In the future we have to continue to work on our consistency and precision,” summed up coach Jörg Ramel after the game. In the game on Sunday against the favorites and title contenders Union Compact Freistadt, the Bozen team could no longer build on Saturday's performance and clearly lost the game 4-0 in sets. “Freistadt was just a bit too big today and yesterday’s game was still in our grasp. Now it's time to look ahead to the first home game next Saturday (at 16 p.m.) against UFG Grieskirchen. Grieskirchen won both games this weekend. We will need our best fistball and hope for the support of our own fans in order to be able to compete against the young team led by coach Markus Kraft,” concluded Runer.
