Brixen becomes the mountain running capital of the world at the weekend

However, the renowned mountain running event will begin on Friday with the Women's Run and, with the Dolomites UltraTrail, the LadiniaTrail and the Villnöss Dolomiten Run, has three additional routes with different lengths and levels of difficulty to offer for all running enthusiasts. However, the “classic” is the Brixen Dolomites Marathon, which was held for the first time in 2010. It runs over a length of 42,195 kilometers with an altitude of 2450 meters from Brixen Cathedral Square up to the Plose, the local mountain of the former bishop's residence. A varied route that impresses above all with its scenic beauty and the wonderful panoramic view of the majestic mountains of the Dolomites and attracts hundreds of participants every year. This is no different even after a year of “forced break”. Running event creates euphoria “The interest in our races remains unbroken and numerous reports have been received in the last few days. The preparations for the Brixen Dolomites Marathon are almost complete. In any case, the anticipation is great - among the participants, in our organization, but also in the population of Brixen, who are looking forward to the major sporting event with excitement," says OK President Christian Jocher, who with Edeltraud Thaler from Lana is the record winner (five successes in a row from 2011 to 2015) among the participants. The grand dame of South Tyrolean running faces competition from Basilia Förster from Munich, who won the Pitztal Alpine Glacier two years ago, also won the Bettelmatt Ultratrail in the same year and took seventh place at the Lavaredo Ultratrail. Route change on the Dolomites UltraTrail However, there is a change to the Dolomites UltraTrail, which can only be tackled in teams of two during the night from Friday to Saturday (start at 0.01:10 a.m. in Brixen). Here the route had to be shortened by around 74 kilometers for safety reasons due to the snow fields still present and is now around XNUMX kilometers long. The new route leads from Campill around the Peitlerkofel directly towards Rossalm and not as originally planned around the Geisler peaks to the Fornella Hut. “There is still too much snow in this area and it would simply be too dangerous for the participants. That’s why we on the board decided to run variant B,” continued Jocher. Alexander Rabensteiner, the winner of the first edition of the Dolomites UltraTrail, is back at the start. This time the Klausner is not competing with Jimmy Pellegrini, but with Ivan Favretto. “Favretto won the Abbots Way this year and came second in the Garda Trentino Trail over 60 kilometers. In the team with Rabensteiner, they are of course among the top favorites,” says OK member Roald Bertol. Premiere of the Funes Dolomites Run The two “shorter” trail routes are also very scenic: on the one hand, the 29 kilometer long LadiniaTrail with an ascent of 1852 meters, which goes from St. Martin in Thurn to the Plose from 8.30 a.m., and the Villnöss Dolomiten Run, which with its 22 kilometers and 385 meters of ascent but a rapid 1070 meters of descent is on the program for the first time. For the premiere of this distance, the starting signal will be fired at 9 a.m. in St. Magdalena in Villnöß, while the finish line will be at Domplatz in Brixen. By the way, local hero Luca Pescolldungg (Stern im Badia) is one of the hot contenders for victory at the LadiniaTrail. Last weekend he took third place at the premiere of the Ratschings Mountain Trail. As far as the weather is concerned - a key success factor for an outdoor sporting event - the organizers of the Brixen Dolomites Marathon seem to be lucky. “As of today, the weather situation on Saturday is stable. We will monitor developments closely in the coming days so that we are prepared for all eventualities and nothing stands in the way of an unforgettable day in our beautiful mountains," explains OC boss Christian Jocher in conclusion.
