Cagnotto and Innerhofer are South Tyrol's athletes of the year

The Bolzano diver and the Gaiser skier were chosen by over 70.000 readers of the daily newspaper “Dolomiten”. Cagnotto received 21.540 votes and was over 10.000 votes ahead of the runner-up world champion in ski jumping Elena Runggaldier (11.017) and Denise Karbon (6973). The woman from Castelrotto has already won the sports election three times. Last year's winner Johanna Schnarf from Olang came seventh. After Irmgard Trojer, Antonella Bellutti and Monika Niederstätter, Cagnotto is only the fourth summer athlete to be honored. Maria Canins was active both as a cross-country skier in winter and as a cyclist in summer.

However, the most voted athlete this year was Christof Innerhofer, who received an impressive 40.847 votes. In doing so, he clearly distanced himself from the eight-time athlete election winner Armin Zöggeler (6818). The Pusterer biathlete Lukas Hofer (4382) took third place.

Six weeks ago, Tanja Cagnotto won gold on the 1m board at the European Championships in Turin and, together with Francesca Dallapé from Trento, in the synchronized jumping on the 3m board. She also won bronze on the 3m board. The 25-year-old has already won 18 medals at World and European Championships in her career.

In February of this year, Christof Innerhofer was the superstar of the Alpine Ski World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where he won three medals: gold in the super-G, silver in the super combined and bronze in the downhill.

In Meran, the “Ossi-Pircher” young talent prizes were also awarded to the swimmer Lisa Fissneider from Kaltern and the Bolzano mountain biker Maximilian Vieider. The Ritttner ice hockey player Roland Ramoser was honored for his career.

Cagnotto and Innerhofer are South Tyrol's athletes of the year

On Friday evening at the “Ball des Sports” in the Merano Kurhaus, Tania Cagnotto and Christof Innerhofer were named South Tyrol’s athletes of the year. They follow Johanna Schnarf and Armin Zöggeler, who won last year.
