Darts World Cup: Spectators and alcohol allowed, but no chants

As the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) announced on Wednesday, up to 1000 fans will be allowed per session at Alexandra Palace. In recent years, the hall has accommodated around 3000 spectators, who are known for their exuberant atmosphere and crazy costumes. However, not much will remain of the usual atmosphere in “Ally Pally”. “Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to allow spectators in costumes on site this year,” wrote the professional association: “But Christmas sweaters are allowed.” Songs and chants “in football style” are also prohibited. According to the PDC's guidelines, only fans from British regions in levels 1 and 2 of the risk scale are allowed to book tables with four seats, whereby only members of a household or from the immediate environment are allowed to sit at a table. The tickets are linked to exact entry times. Food and drinks are ordered via smartphone app and served directly at the tables; the consumption of alcohol is also permitted. Aside from eating and drinking, wearing protective masks is mandatory at all times. Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, all PDC tournaments have had to operate without spectators. From a German perspective, Gabriel Clemens, Max Hopp and Nico Kurz are taking part in the World Cup. The defending champion is the Scot Peter Wright.

No fancy costumes and no chants, but at least a small step towards normality: Despite the corona pandemic, the Darts World Cup in London's “Ally Pally” (December 15th to January 3rd) can take place in front of spectators.
