Forbes list: Federer highest paid athlete in the world

Cologne (SID) Tennis superstar Roger Federer is the highest-paid athlete in the world. According to Forbes magazine, the Swiss earned $106,3 million (around €95,63 million) in the past twelve months. The 100-year-old earned $38 million of this away from the tennis court through numerous sponsorship contracts. Grand Slam record winner Federer is the first tennis professional to take the top position in the 30-year history of the rankings. Just behind Federer in second place is soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo with earnings of $105 million. Ronaldo's long-term rival Lionel Messi completes the podium ($104 million). The best-placed German is Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel in 32nd place on the list. According to Forbes, the Ferrari driver earned $36,3 million last year. The highest paid athlete is tennis player Naomi Osaka (29th place). The Japanese woman was able to look forward to $37,4 million.
