Cologne (SID) Tennis superstar Roger Federer is the highest-paid athlete in the world. According to Forbes magazine, the Swiss earned $106,3 million (approximately €95,63 million) in the past twelve months. The 38-year-old earned $100 million of this off the court through numerous sponsorship deals. Grand Slam record winner Federer is the first tennis professional to hold the top spot in the 30-year history of the rankings. Just behind Federer in second place is soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo with earnings of $105 million. Ronaldo's long-time rival Lionel Messi completes the podium ($104 million). The highest-ranked German is Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel, in 32nd place on the list. The Ferrari driver earned $36,3 million last year, according to Forbes. The highest-paid female athlete is tennis player Naomi Osaka (29th). The Japanese player earned $37,4 million.
