The ski talent that is doubly gifted

Camille Rast has been tipped as a rising star since her gold medal in the slalom at the 2017 Junior World Championships in Åre. Not without reason: that same winter, as a 17-year-old (!), she came 9th in the giant slalom at Kronplatz in St. Vigil. Apparently nothing stood in the way of a successful future. But her development stalled: first Pfeiffer's glandular fever put her out of action, then Rast tore her cruciate and medial ligaments. She only returned last winter - and immediately exceeded all expectations.

In addition to skiing, the Valais woman has a second passion: cycling, or more precisely enduro sport. A competition in this cycling discipline consists of various stages with time measurement (special stages) and without time measurement (connecting stages). The focus is on the downhill sections, as only these are measured in time. There is only a time window for the uphill sections. A competition covers a distance of up to 50 kilometers with a travel time of 3 to 4 hours, sometimes even over two days.

The best athletes in this sport have been competing in a World Cup since 2013. The new season started last weekend in Val di Fassa - and Camille Rast was at the start.

The ski ace placed 32nd in her first World Cup participation in the Enduro, leaving at least ten athletes behind her. “The feeling from training was good,” writes Rast on social media: “But the stress of the race took over. I quickly got pain in my forearms and I'm still a little bit getting used to the strain." In the end, it was a great experience and she's already looking forward to the second race, which will take place again this weekend in the Fassa Valley .
