The South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace 2021 starts as a special edition

The two longer distances (121 and 69 kilometers) must be avoided for safety reasons, but the South Tyrol Sky Marathon (28 km/44,5 meters in altitude) will take place on Saturday, August 2863th on the original route and the South Tyrol Sky Trail (27 km/ 1800 meters altitude) with the route reversed carried out as planned. “In the past few weeks we have had a lot of discussions and, as an organizing committee, we have looked into the topic in detail. In the end, almost all arguments spoke in favor of canceling the two long distances - also because we cannot offer Ultra Skyrace and Skyrace in the usual quality. “That’s why we will focus on the two shorter races on Saturday, August 28th and try to give the trail athletes an unforgettable mountain adventure in the Sarntal Alps,” says OC boss Josef Günther Mair. Rock fall at Eberle makes route change necessary The South Tyrol Sky Marathon (44,5 km/2863 m) can be run - with a small, insignificant change - on the original route from Bolzano via the Ritten and the Sarner Scharte to Totenkichl and from there down towards Sarnthein to the finish arch. Because the Oswald Promenade is closed in the initial part after the rock fall at the Hotel Eberle at the beginning of January, the route in this area will be relocated to the 2er way. This means that the route will be approximately 2,5 kilometers longer. However, when it comes to the South Tyrol Sky Trail, the route will be reversed this special year. The participants also start on the Bolzano Talferwiesen, then run from there up to Jenesien and over the Salten, past the Möltner Kaser and the Stoanernen Mandln and finally from Auen down to Sarnthein through the finish arch. The pandemic requires an additional security concept Due to the corona pandemic, an additional safety concept was developed for the special edition of the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace, which will be refined in detail in the coming weeks. Because there may be further relaxations in the coming weeks due to the falling number of infections and the increasing vaccination rate, the organizers of the ASV Südtirol Ultra Skyrace are still keeping a low profile on this matter. However, participants will be informed of the safety measures in good time.
