Defibrillators are mandatory from July 1st, but only during competitions

The new ministerial decree confirms that the obligation to use defibrillators in sport will come into force on July 1st, but this obligation will be “softened”: it will only apply to the official competitions of the sports associations and the competitive activities of the sports funding bodies and not to all training sessions of the sports clubs as originally planned .

In addition, the ministerial decree also provides for the connection of defibrillators to the facilities instead of to the sports clubs at the state level and excludes competitions outside of the sports facilities from the defibrillator requirement. For South Tyrol, the purchase through the facility owners instead of the clubs and the exclusion of activities outside the sports facilities are not new; the state government had already made a corresponding decision in December 2014 and the state had also campaigned on this in Rome from the start.

The new ministerial decree also addresses the exemption of sports activities with low cardiovascular strain from the requirement for defibrillators, established in 2013, by listing the affected disciplines for boccia, billiards, golf, surface sport fishing, sport hunting, shooting sports and board games explicitly mentions some additional sports, including darts, mini golf and bowling.

The State Councilor for Health and Sport, Martha Stocker, is very pleased about the relaxation of the defibrillator requirement in sport, “because the cardiovascular strain is particularly high during competitions and it would have been a really big effort for the sports clubs, for everyone Training to ensure the presence of a person authorized to use the defibrillators. The connection of the defibrillators to the sports facilities and the exception of activity in the great outdoors also confirms the correctness of the path that we have taken in South Tyrol from the beginning."
