The World Cup will take place in Rabenstein from February 7th to 9th, 2014

The international climbing association UIAA has yet to officially announce this date, but at a meeting between representatives of the UIAA and members of the “Eisturm Rabenstein” association in Zurich, the date of February 7th to 9th, 2014 was fixed.

After the big opening party on Friday, February 7th at the Thermenplatz in Meran, climbing will take place on Saturday, February 8th and Sunday, February 9th - in the tried and tested manner. On Saturday the qualification for the difficulty competition will take place during the day, while the decision in speed climbing will be made in the evening. Sunday is all about the semi-finals or the final race for victory in difficult climbing.

“Of course we would have liked to stick to our date at the end of January. But for organizational reasons, the UIAA was unable to accommodate us in this regard. Nevertheless, we are really looking forward to the second edition of the Ice Climbing World Cup here in Rabenstein,” said OC boss Reinhard Graf from the “Eisturm Rabenstein” club.

World Cup 2014 as a dress rehearsal for the 2015 World Cup

The 2014 World Cup is not only very special because it takes place during the first Olympic weekend. The next edition is also the dress rehearsal for the 2015 World Cup, which has already been officially awarded to the Eisturm Rabenstein club. “It’s a dream come true for us. We have worked hard towards this goal over the past ten years and in a year and a half we will crown the world champions in Rabenstein. It will certainly be the highlight for our club,” explained Graf.

The best ice climbers in the world will find even better conditions than in the past at the second edition of the World Cup in Rabenstein. Thanks to the generous support of the Moos community, the club building is currently being rebuilt. There are offices and changing rooms, material storage and garages, or storage rooms for equipment, as well as a guest business and even a meeting room.

The final construction phase should be completed by December. Just in time for the start of the season on December 26th, where there are three reasons to celebrate this year. On the one hand, because the new season is starting. On the other hand, because the “Eisturm Rabenstein” club will be celebrating its tenth anniversary. And of course also because the new building will then be ceremoniously handed over to its intended use.
