The world's best distance athletes compete at Ritten

Athletes from 6 countries are registered for the European Cup: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, France and Italy. The European Cup for distance athletes was originally planned in Siusi. Since the “Open Air” of the Kastelruther Spatzen was taking place in Kasteltruth at the same time and therefore there were hardly any accommodations to be found in the Sciliar area, the European Cup had to be moved to the Ritten. Around 100 distance athletes will show off their skills on the distance track at the Rittner Eisring from Friday. This is the second time since 2 that the Ritten is the venue for the European Stock Cup in the distance competition.

Like at the European Championships in Ritten, there is a premiere for the women. They are taking part in the European Cup for the first time. Starting for South Tyrol are Sonja Mulser from Eppan, Karin Prast from Wolfsgruben/Ritten, Natalie Schwarz from Lana and Simone Zelger from Teis/Villnöß (in the picture, from left). At the men's European Cup, South Tyrol is represented by Damian Denicolò (St. Lorenzen), Thomas Pichler (Schenna), Werner Bozner (Girlan), Adolf Bertolini (Terlan) and Tobias Verginer (Ritten).

The South Tyrolean distance specialist Norbert Lang expects Sonja Mulser to win an individual medal and two medals in the team rankings. When comparing countries, the distance specialist expects Denicoló to win an individual medal.

The world's best distance athletes compete at Ritten

The elite distance athletes are coming to Ritten for the second time this year. The reason for this is the men's European Cup on summer sports ground, which will be held from Friday on the concrete track on the back straight of the Rittner Eisring.
