Curling: A tailor-made start to the European Championships for the South Tyroleans

The women won all eight games against Russia (34:0), Finland (22:10), Czech Republic (21:6), Switzerland (27:3), Germany (15:13), Austria (16:8), Belarus (25:3) and Slovenia (17:3). After the first half of the season, the South Tyrolean women's team leads with 16 points ahead of Austria (14), Germany (12) and the Czech Republic (8). The South Tyrolean women's team consists of captain and women's specialist, Sonja Mulser (St. Michael/Eppan), Marion Huber (Stegen), Maria Mair am Tinkhof (Luttach), Maria Romen (Eppan-Berg) and Magdalena Karnutsch (Mölten) . “I am very satisfied with my team’s performance. So far everything is going according to plan,” said women’s specialist Sonja Mulser. The second half of the season will take place on Friday.

According to men's specialist Hans Hofer, the South Tyrolean men's team, which competed with a new formation, also performed very well. After the first half of the season, the team with Matthias Morandell (Kaltern), Reinhold Oberhammer (Welsberg), Klaus Panzenberger (Toblach), Stefan Roalter (St. Michael/Eppan) and Roman Zublasing (Kaltern) is eight points behind in the A group Austria (12) and Germany (10) took third place. There were four wins against Switzerland (13:11), Slovenia (21:3), Finland (40:0) and the Czech Republic (17:3). The South Tyroleans suffered two defeats against Germany (13:15) and Austria (6:18).

Things went just as well for the South Tyroleans in the target competition. In the men's category, all three South Tyroleans, Roland Zublasing (327) in fifth, Werner Psaier (Teis/326) in sixth and Josef Aichner (Teis/302) in eighth, qualified for the individual final of the best eight. In the women's category, only Magdalena Karnutsch (Mölten/267) made it into the individual final in seventh place. Marion Huber (Stegen/226) in 13th place and her mother Annelies Huber (187) in 20th place were eliminated in the preliminary round today.

The first European Championship medals in the target team competition will be awarded in Pisek on Friday. The South Tyroleans can win a medal for both women and men.
