European Championship medals: Germany and Italy set the tone

On Sunday there were still some exciting decisions to be made on the tenth and final day of the European Championships in Munich. In the women's road race, with three final laps through Munich's old town, the Italians narrowly missed out on the European Championship title. The bitterly disappointed world champion Elisa Balsamo and young star Rachele Barbieri were only beaten in the finish sprint by the world's best sprinter Lorena Wiebes (already 17 wins this season) from the strong Dutch team.
