European Championships 2022 in Munich - Seehofer: “Major sporting event of the highest caliber”

Munich (SID) The second edition of the European Championships will take place in Munich in summer 2022. More than 11 athletes are expected from August 21th to 2022st, 4000. They compete for more than 150 European Championship medals in the sports of athletics, cycling, golf, gymnastics, rowing and triathlon. Another discipline will be added to the program. It is the largest sporting event to take place in Munich since the 1972 Olympics. The competitions will largely be held in the Olympic Park - 50 years after the Summer Games in the Bavarian capital. Rowing takes place on the regatta course in Oberschleissheim, which is to be renovated. The city of Munich approved the application in June. The public broadcasters ARD and ZDF will provide extensive coverage of the competitions. "The European Championships 2022 are a major sporting event of the highest caliber. The decision in favor of Munich is a great success for German sport. Also in view of its history, the Olympic Park in Munich is a very suitable venue," said Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer: "We have Once again the opportunity to present Germany as a sports-loving and hospitable country." Last year, Berlin and Glasgow hosted the multi-sport event. The event celebrated its premiere back then and was very well received by athletes.
