Fistball European Championship: sheet metal for Bolzano

In the final game for the bronze medal in front of over 2000 spectators, it remained exciting until the end. The Bolzano women, who did not start the continental competition as expected last Saturday, were able to improve on Sunday and hold their own for a long time in the game for third place against Switzerland.

“On Saturday we had to struggle with some coordination difficulties, but on Sunday we were able to deliver our performance and play a good game,” summed up coach Philipp Frasnelli.

Frasnelli was overall satisfied with his ladies' performance and is convinced that these results can be built on in the future. The women's world championships in Austria are on the agenda next year.

“With a view to the World Cup, it is important to further integrate our youth into the team in order to have the necessary team width for a World Cup,” said setter Gloria Biasion.

The new European champion for women is Germany. The women from Austria are the new vice-European champions. Bronze went to the women from Switzerland.

The SSV Bozen men's team was also in action at the weekend. The autumn round of the Bundesliga starts next week for the Bolzano fistball players and so they wanted to work on the final touches at the international preparatory tournament in Rosenheim. In the semi-finals, the people of Bolzano had to narrowly admit defeat in the deciding set against the eventual tournament winner MTV Rosenheim against world champion and World Games winner Steve Fehller. The game for third place was clearly won 2-0 in sets against the Swiss team from Elgg-Ettenhausen.

Unfortunately, at the European Championships in Calw (Germany), the Bolzano fistball players only made it to the metal. The women from Germany remained European champions.
