The European Fistball Championship is in the starting blocks

A dynamic racquet game that is particularly recognized in the German-European-speaking area. So it's no wonder that Germany is hosting the men's European Championship for the seventh time. The small town and fistball stronghold Adelmannsfelden is taking on this challenge. “We are expecting up to 8.000 fistball fans,” says the president of the organizing committee, Hermann Bäuerle. In order to transform this small town into a fistball mecca, the 800 members of the TSV Adelmannsfelden club, the EFA (European Fistball Association) and the DFBL (German Fistball League) have been trying to get the sports grounds up to speed for several months. In addition to Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Serbia, Poland, Denmark and the Czech Republic, fistball newcomers the Netherlands will also be taking part in a European Championship for the first time. The following men's European Championships will take place in Kaltern in 2020.

Injury concerns plague the team Under the leadership of head coach Jörg Ramel, the “Squadra Azzurra” played several preparatory tournaments and an international match against Switzerland in order to optimally prepare for the European Championships. At the same time, the team is struggling with isolated injuries, meaning that not all players are fully operational, including young attacker Moritz Scherer. Routine players Tobias Prudenziati, Thomas Meran and Lukas Spergser are also not in the final European Championship squad. This personnel shortage allows the two young players Matthias and Michael Spornberger to prove themselves and is a challenge that the coach tries to overcome as follows: “Since fistball is a team and not an individual sport, we can work together as a team by getting maximum performance from the adults get involved.” The “Azzurri” form Group A together with Germany, Austria and Switzerland and will meet record champions Germany in the preliminary round on Friday at 10:45. “Even though we have a difficult group and a very young team, our goal is to qualify for the game for third place,” says captain Florian Runer.
