Italy with a conciliatory end

After the two defeats against Austria at the start and Brazil in the third group game, as well as the win against the USA, Italy wanted to show a conciliatory conclusion in the last game of the World Games. The Azzurri have thus impressively confirmed their position as the fifth best fistball nation. Fifth place was also the best result for an Italian team at the World Games. The Azzurri with the Bolzano players Jakob Riegler, Matthias Spornberger, Florin Unterkofler, Christian Scartezzini, Fabian Obexer, Armin Runer, Simon Prudenziati, Florian Runer, Moritz Menz and Valentin Schwarz showed a strong game against Chile, they dominated the game in three sets against an overwhelmed opponent. The clear final result was 3:0 sets (11:6, 11:6 and 11:6). Captain Simon Prudenziati was pleased with the experience at the tournament in the USA: “The World Games were an incredible experience. Fifth place, or in other words, first place behind the big four nations is incredible and a great success for Italian fistball.” Resignations from the national team The two regular players, Florian Runer and Christian Scartezzini, ended their careers in the Italian national team after the game. Florian Runer said after his last game in the national team jersey: “The World Games in Birmingham will remain an unforgettable experience. For me it was the last but also the most beautiful game with the 'maglia azzurra'. I would like to thank all my colleagues and fistballs for all the indescribable moments and emotions.” Christian Scartezzini was also euphoric after the victory: “Ending your fistball career with this victory and this event is indescribable. We got better and better as a team over the course of the tournament and were able to clearly set ourselves apart from our direct competitors. This team is indescribable - thank you!” In the game for third place, Brazil narrowly defeated Austria 3-2 and thus secured the bronze medal. Both finals, women's and men's, are called Germany - Switzerland. Italy was not represented in the women's tournament.

The Italian fistball players celebrated a huge success at the World Games in Birmingham/USA and won the game for 5th place against Chile in an impressive manner. Germany and Switzerland meet in the final.
