More fans in the stadiums: HCP, FCS and Co. breathe a sigh of relief

Until last weekend, the following rule was in place for professional and amateur sports: a maximum of 50% of the stadium capacity could be occupied outdoors, while indoors it was only 35%. Now this regulation has been overturned. The reason: the high vaccination rate and slightly declining corona numbers in the boot state. In future, 75% of the spectator seats may be used in football stadiums and 60% in halls. In particular, the relaxation for the closed arenas is greater than expected in advance. The national basketball and volleyball associations have proven to be the driving forces here, but it is primarily the handball and ice hockey clubs that benefit from this in the local sports world. For example, HC Pustertal, which has always exhausted the capacity limit of 1085 seats in its three games so far in the brand new Intercable Arena, can finally take a deep breath. In the next home games, 1860 fans will be allowed into the 3100-capacity hall. This also applies to the derby against HC Bozen on October 26th. The home ground of the Foxes, who enjoyed a season-best 1900 spectators against Innsbruck on Friday, will be open to around 4400 supporters in the future. In addition to the two South Tyrolean ICE clubs, the AlpsHL and IHL clubs also benefit from the new regulation. “Remove all limitations as quickly as possible.” Valentina Vezzali, Sports Undersecretary of State In football, FC Südtirol can be particularly pleased about the easing of restrictions. In the future, up to 2400 fans will pass through the turnstiles in the Drusus Stadium, which is still being renovated. “Of course, the regulations only apply to the white zones; the Green Pass is still necessary,” emphasizes Valentina Vezzali, Undersecretary of State for Sport. She promises: “We are working on lifting all restrictions – at least outdoors – as quickly as possible.” In any case, the Italian government has already created further conditions so that sports fans can enjoy the stadium experience that they were used to before Corona. Will the fans even come back? However, it remains to be seen whether fans will flock to the venues again. In the past few weeks and months, even the reduced ticket quotas have not been used up in many places. A phenomenon that can be observed not only in South Tyrol, but especially in the best sports leagues in Italy and throughout Europe.
