After homophobic tirades: Rugby star is about to end his career

The national association RA has terminated the contract with the 2022-year-old, which was actually dated until 30, due to a particularly serious breach of the rules of conduct. Folau has 72 hours to appeal the decision.

The strictly religious Folau recently posted a picture on Instagram in which he threatened, among other things, homosexuals, alcoholics, thieves and atheists: “Hell awaits you. Repent! Only Jesus can save you.” Folau had already attracted negative attention last year due to a homophobic statement.

A specially convened Australian Rugby Federation tribunal concluded earlier this month that Folau had breached the sport's code of conduct. Folau is therefore unlikely to play for the Wallabies at the World Cup in Japan in four months' time. The New South Wales Waratahs initially did not comment after the RA decision, but Folau's club from the international Super Rugby League did not want to use the professional until the case had been fully clarified.

Folau had shown no remorse after the incident. He stands by “what the Bible says,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald: “I believe in a God who controls everything. Whatever his wishes are, whether I continue playing rugby or not, I am more than happy to do what he has in mind for me.”
