New decree: Amateur sports should be suspended

Amateur sports are on hold! This report reached the editorial team on Tuesday afternoon. But it's not that easy, especially since the South Tyrolean sports world is subject to numerous different associations. Opinions differ even when it comes to the term “regional” and “supra-regional”. Football association in a special role In principle (with the exception of the Oberliga), the South Tyrolean amateur football championships are not regional, but rather provincial championships. But because the South Tyrolean regional committee (just like that of Trentino, by the way) has the status of a regional association, on paper it is still a regional championship. Association President Paul Georg Tappeiner is keeping a low profile and did not want to make a statement on Tuesday afternoon due to the opaque situation. But: time is running out. Matchday is already on Wednesday (there are cup matches on the program). It is also questionable what will happen to the numerous VSS championships. Training is still permitted. Ice hockey & Co. only partially affected The situation is somewhat simpler with other team sports, such as handball or volleyball. Most championships are held here regionally or nationally anyway. The first cup games are scheduled for the weekend, which – as of now – are scheduled to take place. In ice hockey, too, it is not just South Tyrolean teams that take part in most championships and that is why they are at least regional. There are question marks about local South Tyrolean recreational ice hockey, which is also not organized by the Italian ice sports association FISG. These championships are threatened with interruption. Who will definitely have to stop their league appearances - at least for the time being - is HC Bozen. The state government's new decree is causing excitement among thousands of South Tyrolean athletes. It says that “amateur sports – with the exception of regional and national championships – are prohibited.”
