“Pfiat enk”: These South Tyrolean sports stars quit in 2018

Alpine skiing Manuela Mölgg (35): The woman from Enneberg has competed in 283 World Cup races in her career and reached the podium 14 times. But she was denied a victory. Mölgg now helps out in her home hotel in St. Vigil.

Florian Eisath (34): The technician was in the World Cup starting house 113 times and had his personal moment of glory in Alta Badia in 2016 when he came third in the giant slalom. After the end of his career, Eisath worked as managing director of the lift company Latemar Karersee GmbH.

Verena Stuffer (34): The native of Val Gardena has 148 World Cup races under her belt (best result was fourth place in the Cortina Super-G 4). Stuffer is now working as a secretary for the Carabinieri sports group in Langertal.

Patrick Thaler (40): The Sarner ended his career in the middle of last season. The balance: 21 years of World Cup, 172 races and three third slalom places (two of them in Kitzbühel). Today Thaler is active as a youth coach.

Lisa Magdalena Agerer (27): The “dual citizen” (Agerer was born in Austria, but started for the “Azzurri”) drew the line after 54 World Cup starts due to injury. Karin Oberhofer (33): Karin Oberhofer has won one bronze Olympic medal and three World Cup medals in her career. After her maternity break in 2017, she attempted a comeback this year - but without success. Today Oberhofer is the proud mother of two children. Track & Field Silvia Weissteiner (39): The runner ended her international athletics career. The Wipptal native's greatest success was probably seventh place in the 5000 m run at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. But Weissteiner hasn't stopped completely: she still does hobby runs. Karin Knapp (31): South Tyrol's best tennis player of all time had to end her career in May due to injury. “The knee isn’t working anymore,” says the Ahrntal native, who is expecting her first child in a few days. The soon-to-be mother is also active as a trainer for South Tyrol's tennis talent Verena Hofer. Basketball Tomas Ress (38): South Tyrol's best basketball player of all time played a total of 622 games in Serie A and was the active player with the most league games until his retirement. This is one of the reasons why many people refer to him as a legend. Today he is gaining his first coaching experience with Aquila Trento's youth team. Swimming Lisa Fissneider (24): The two-time junior world champion stopped playing competitive sports at a young age. “I'm pretty far away from the top and I know how much I would have to give to get back to the top - I couldn't see myself going beyond that,” says Fissneider, who now works in the financial sports group's sports center in Rome. Christoph Mick (30): The parallel snowboarder took part in 78 World Cup races, two Olympic Games and six World Championships. Two World Cup victories are his greatest successes. The Welschnofen native now works as head chef in his girlfriend's hotel. Ski cross Stefan Thanei (37): Although the most experienced ski crosser from the “Azzurri” (68 World Cup starts, no podium) wanted to continue for another season, he was no longer considered. Debora Pixner (26): The 30-time World Cup starter said “servus” after the Olympic winter. The Passeier native is currently completing her law studies in Innsbruck.

Marco Tomasi (31): Marco Tomasi competed in over 60 World Cup races, but his best result came in 8th place at the World Cup in Myrkdalen (Norway). After the Olympic season he was no longer considered. Tomasi now works as a ski trainer in Japan. Artificial track tobogganing Christian Oberstolz & Patrick Gruber (41 and 40 respectively): The long-time luge duo was not considered for the Olympics and was not allowed to compete in any more races afterwards - so the end of their careers was not voluntary. Alexander Egger (39): For years, Alexander Egger was the big figurehead of HCB Südtirol Alperia. After the fairytale EBEL title with the Foxes and well over 1000 competitive games for club and national team, he ended his career in April. Egger now works in his father's craft business and occasionally acts as Bolzano's defensive coach. short track speed skating Federica Tombolato (24): The short tracker from Bolzano competed in the World Cup several times, but ended her career early at the age of 24. “The association and the national coach no longer showed any interest in me,” said the Bolzano native. Nordic combined Armin Bauer (28): The Wolkensteiner competed 82 times in the World Cup, six times at the Olympics and 15 times at the World Championships. Lisa Rabensteiner (25): The mountain biker was on the podium several times in the U23 World Cup and at the Italian Championships. But in July she drew a surprising conclusion. After completing her master's degree, Rabensteiner now works as a kindergarten teacher. Handball Lukas Waldner (36): He has played in the first team of SSV Bozen since 1999, including as captain for almost 15 years. With the white and red, Waldner won 10 trophies and was champion four times. He is now the women's coach at Schenna in the A2 series.

Holger Kovacs (29): The captain of SSV Brixen ended his career surprisingly early. “I haven't made it through my career without injuries, and I also want to start a family,” said Kovacs, who has nothing to do with handball for the time being.

Michael Gufler (40): “Gufo” scored over 2000 goals in his career. The end of his career followed in the summer. He is now active as sports director at Serie A club Meran.
