Risarcimento Padova and Caissa Bologna win the Italian championship title in Brixen

The two play-off duels at the end, which were used for the first time this year, passed their acid test and brought additional excitement and thrills to the 2st edition of the competition. They had to go into a tiebreaker several times, as the first meeting ended with a 51-2 draw. There were two in the semi-finals on April 2th and even 30 in the final on Wednesday. In addition, FM Lorenzo Passatore (Arroco Roma) was also able to achieve an IM standard with 5 out of 7 points As expected, the Obiettivo Risarcimento Padova team, which came with 10 grandmasters, was able to secure its 10th title for the men, after Club 64 Modena won 2,5:1,5 in the two finals and Fischer Chieti won 3:1 in the final was moved out of the way. As in the previous year, Fischer Chieti was able to win the runner-up title. This time, however, the bronze medal went to the Club 64 Modena team, which defeated newly promoted Elettrica Marostica 3-1 in the final. The quartet from Veneto also included two South Tyrolean FIDE masters: FM Gerd Schacher (Klausen) and FM Carlo Micheli (Deutschnofen). A South Tyrolean, Davide Olivetti, also took part in the Montebelluna Master (10th place).

Euro Perugia, on the other hand, did not have a good experience with the new system, whose list also included the two Kalterer IM Alexander Bertagnolli and FM Nicholas Paltrinieri. Last year they were still in 6th place - and also in this position after the 7 rounds in Group B - the first play-out encounter against Montebelluna Master was narrowly missed with 1:1,5 and they also had to fight in the final against Ceriatese After an initial 2,5:2 equalizer, they were beaten 2:1 in the play-off. The result was 3th place and thus the first of the 13 relegation places.

In the women's category, however, the representation from Caissa Pantole Agnelli Bologna, which was also full of top players, once again won everything and only left their opponents one board point in the 7 rounds. This was secured by Mimosa Milano, which, like in 2018, took second place. However, the South Tyrolean selection Ninfe delle Dolomiti, which took part for the first time, was able to receive the bronze medal in front of their home crowd, although in addition to Nicole Samantha Paparella from Bolzano, help was also needed from the rest of the country. The second local representation of South Tyrolean girls counted on Carmen Lantschner, Eva Anrater, Anna Pichler, Barbara Balzan and Anna Giacomazzi and took 2th place in their debut. With 6 out of 3, Anrater was the most diligent point collector of all South Tyrolean women.

The 6-day national chess title fights in the team competition ended on the afternoon of May 1st in the Brixen Forum. The 16 men's and 8 women's teams had chosen their winners.
