How many players does a team have? A team consists of a goalkeeper and 14 field players. A maximum of 6 substitutions are allowed per game. The playing time is 2x35 minutes; if an extension is necessary, there are an additional 2x10 minutes. The playing field (lawn) is 130-145 meters long and 80-90 meters wide, slightly larger than a football field. Since when has Gaelic football existed? A game called football was first documented in 1527 in the statutes of Galway (city on the west coast of Ireland). In 1695, gambling on Sundays was banned, but the ban could not be implemented in practice. In the 19th century, games were usually held after church and often lasted the whole day. Back then, the aim was to carry the ball to the opposing community.

Is Gaelic Football a rough sport? In any case: Before the introduction of binding rules by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1884, Gaelic football was commonly referred to as a “rough-and-tumble game”.

What is a foul? There are fouls in Gaelic Football, just like in soccer. The following are not permitted: -Special hardness (rough playing style) -Feigning an injury or foul -Consciously bringing down an opponent with your hand, arm, knee or foot -Jump on an opponent -Spitting at an opponent -Insulting an opponent or teammate through provocative choice of words -To protest against a decision of the referee

Who are the referees? The actual referee (referee) is supported by 2 linesmen and 4 goal judges; the goal judges can be recognized by their white coats. As in football, the referee's decisions are so-called factual decisions.

How is the winner of a game determined? The goals and points in Gaelic Football are called scores. A goal is counted when the ball is played into the opponent's goal, like in soccer. A goal counts as 3 points. If the ball is played over the crossbar through the two high goal posts, you score 1 point. Scores can be scored with the foot, head or hand/fist; carrying or throwing the ball into the goal is not permitted. When playing with your hand, only hitting is allowed. Sounds complicated, but it is not. In the end, the team that has achieved more points overall wins. The score is written as follows: Dublin 2-12 Kerry 0-15. The winner in this case is Dublin, 6 (2 goals x 3 points) + 12 = 18 points, Kerry has 15 points.

Who are the most successful teams? Kerry and Dublin lead the all-time list with 37 and 24 titles respectively.

Who is in the final? The Gaelic Football Championship final will be played on September 17th, between Dublin and Mayo. Dublin are defending champions and it would be Mayo's fourth title, their first since 1951.
